EYELID SURGERY – BLEPHAROPLASTY

Exess skin in the eyelids is caused by a loss of skin elasticity which is one of the first signs of facial aging. Blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure used to improve the appearance of eyelids and areas surrounding them. Upper eyelid blepharoplasty can be used to remove excess and/or drooping skin or loose muscle and fat prolapses (baggy eyes).

Lower eyelid blepharoplasty can remove drooping skin under lower eyelids, remove fat prolapses (bags under the eyes) or fill wrinkles by using eye fat transfer. Excess skin in the eyelids is caused by a loss of skin elasticity which is one of the first signs of facial aging.

BASIC INFORMATION

• • Generally, the procedure is performed under local anaesthetic but it can also be performed under sedation or general anaesthetic.
  • Upper eyelid surgery can be completed in approximately 40 minutes.
  • Lower eyelid surgery can be completed in approximately 1 hour.
  • Post-surgery: Stitches are removed 1 week after surgery.
  • Post-surgery: Cool compresses ahould be applied for 2 days, and eyes should be rested. For a week (no reading, no watching TV, dark sunglasses worn outdoors).
  • Bruising and swelling may persist for 7-10 days.
